Understanding Fertility

Factors That Affect Fertility

Fertility is influenced by a wide range of interconnected factors. When one or more of these systems is out of balance, conception can become more difficult, even when standard testing appears normal.

Hormonal imbalances
Thyroid dysfunction
Insulin resistance
Chronic inflammation
Nutrient deficiencies
Stress & cortisol
Ovulatory disorders
Male factor

A naturopathic assessment evaluates these interconnected systems through comprehensive testing, identifying areas that may benefit from targeted support through nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle changes, or coordinated care with your existing medical team.

What Makes This Different

Not generic fertility advice. Here's how the Insynco system works for fertility support.

01

Root-Cause Fertility Assessment

We don't start with cycle tracking and supplements. A comprehensive assessment identifies the hormonal, metabolic, thyroid, and nutritional factors that may be interfering with conception — so your protocol targets the actual cause.

02

Collaborative Care Team

Your ND leads your care plan and can bring in another ND on our team when your case calls for a second perspective. Our support team handles scheduling and follow-up.

03

Comprehensive Fertility Testing

Hormone, thyroid and nutrient testing, matched to your history and cycle.

04

Works With Your Fertility Clinic

Already working with an RE or fertility clinic? Naturopathic care complements IVF, IUI, and medicated cycles. We coordinate, not compete.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often about naturopathic fertility care.

How is naturopathic fertility care different from what a fertility clinic does?+
Fertility clinics focus on assisted reproduction: IVF, IUI, medications that stimulate ovulation. Naturopathic fertility care focuses on identifying root causes that may be interfering with conception: hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation. These approaches are complementary. Many patients work with both at the same time.
What testing do you run, and what does it cost?+
A fertility assessment is matched to your history and cycle, and can include hormone testing (FSH, LH, estradiol, progesterone, AMH, prolactin), full thyroid panel, metabolic markers, inflammatory markers, iron studies, vitamin D, B12, and more. Your ND confirms the cost of each test with you before anything is ordered.†
Can naturopathic care work alongside IVF or medicated cycles?+
Yes. Many patients pursue naturopathic care alongside IVF, IUI, or medicated cycles. The goal is to support overall reproductive health through targeted nutrition, evidence-informed supplementation, and lifestyle optimization while your fertility clinic manages the medical protocol.
How long does a naturopathic fertility protocol typically take?+
Most protocols run 3 to 6 months or longer. The first month focuses on assessment and baseline testing. Months 2 through 4 involve implementing targeted changes. Follow-up testing at 3-month intervals tracks progress so we can adjust based on real data.
Do you work with male fertility concerns?+
Yes. Male factor fertility is a significant part of the picture. We assess hormonal markers, oxidative stress, nutritional status, and lifestyle factors that affect sperm quality and motility. Both partners can be seen as part of a coordinated plan.
Is naturopathic care covered by insurance?+
Naturopathic consultations are covered by most extended health insurance plans in Ontario. Lab tests are billed separately, and we confirm the cost with you before anything is ordered.† Visit our pricing page for full details.
I've already tried everything. Why would this be different?+
The difference is depth. Most routine testing checks a narrow set of markers. We assess a broader range of hormonal, metabolic, inflammatory, thyroid, and nutritional factors, using reference ranges informed by current naturopathic research that are more specific than standard lab ranges. Subclinical imbalances that get dismissed as "normal" are often where the answers are.
Do I need a referral to see a naturopathic doctor?+
No referral is needed. You can book directly through our website and we'll match you with the naturopathic doctor whose clinical focus best fits your concerns.
Can my partner come to appointments?+
Yes. Partners are welcome to join consultations, especially for initial assessments where we're mapping the full picture. For male factor fertility, your partner can also book their own assessment so both sides are being evaluated and supported.
What if I'm already working with a fertility clinic or reproductive endocrinologist?+
That's common and completely fine. Naturopathic care is designed to complement, not replace, conventional fertility treatments. Your ND will work within the context of your existing treatment plan. Many patients find that addressing nutritional, hormonal, and lifestyle factors alongside their fertility clinic's protocol gives them a more complete approach.
Is naturopathic fertility care evidence-based?+
Naturopathic doctors are trained in evidence-informed clinical practice. Our fertility assessments use standard laboratory testing interpreted through current research. Supplementation and lifestyle recommendations are based on published evidence where available. Our naturopathic doctors are registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario and hold four-year postgraduate degrees from accredited naturopathic medical programs.
How do I prepare for my first appointment?+
Bring any recent blood work, test results, or reports from your fertility clinic or family doctor. Note your menstrual cycle dates, any medications or supplements you're currently taking, and a list of your main concerns. Your ND will walk you through everything else during the appointment. See our full guide on what to expect.
Can naturopathic care help with PCOS-related fertility issues?+
Yes. PCOS is one of the most common conditions we assess in fertility cases. A naturopathic approach addresses the underlying drivers of PCOS that affect ovulation, including insulin resistance, androgen levels, inflammation, and nutrient status. Through targeted testing and a personalized protocol, many patients see improvements in cycle regularity and ovulatory function.
What if I've been diagnosed with unexplained infertility?+
Unexplained infertility often means standard testing hasn't found an obvious cause. A naturopathic fertility assessment evaluates a broader range of factors, including subclinical thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, nutrient deficiencies, inflammatory markers, and stress physiology. These are areas where conventional screening may not look deeply enough, and they're frequently where the answers are.
Can I switch naturopathic doctors if the fit isn't right?+
Absolutely. Finding the right practitioner matters. If you feel the fit isn't quite right, contact our team and we'll help match you with another ND. No penalty, no awkwardness.
